Stephanie de Smale

S desmaleStephanie is a postgraduate student New Media & Digital Culture and Media & Performance Studies at Utrecht University. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, her interests lie in exploring the role of game and play in innovation, education and health from an STS perspective.

She has written about the playful practice of ‘hackerculture’ within the development of 3D printers (ToDiGRA forthcoming), and presented some of her work at UC Berkeley. Stephanie is part of the graduate programme game research at Utrecht University, and a research assistant in the project ‘Gaming and Simulations in Higher Education’, a practice-based research project which aims to investigate the conditions for effective implementation of simulations in tertiary education.
